What is the International Thespian Society?
The International Thespian Society, part of the Educational Theatre Association, is an honorary organization for high school and middle school students. It provides performance opportunities, college audition support, awards, and scholarships. Since 1929, over two million students, schools, and educators have benefited from ITS membership.
What are the membership benefits of the International Thespian Society?
Junior thespians, recognized for their commitment and excellence, gain membership in the world’s largest theatre honor society. This recognition fosters a sense of belonging and encourages personal and artistic growth. The skills they acquire—creativity, self-confidence, leadership, communication, and specific theatre skills—benefit them both in school and beyond.
How do students qualify for membership?
Middle/junior high students (grades 6–8) earn one point for every five hours of excellent work. To qualify for Junior Thespian membership, a student must accumulate at least ten points across two different productions and areas (e.g., acting and stage management).Students qualify by earning points for their work in the theatre arts. ITS provides a point system guide for your use. The points listed are the suggested maximum for excellent work.
